New Years Resolutions!

So this New Years Eve I am, probably for the first time ever, actually going to a party! I'm mostly excited about the prospect of getting dressed up beforehand to be honest, but isn't that always the best bit? The only part of my outfit I'm sure of just now is the wedges that I mentioned yesterday... so, knowing me, a majority of my time tomorrow will be taken up by staring at my wardrobe trying to conjure up a magical outfit! Anyway, whatever you are all up to tomorrow I hope you have a lovely time welcoming in 2012 :)

Finally getting to the point of this post, I have attempted to make up some long-term New Years Resolutions for 2012, and they are:

Shit, that's quite a lot to try and keep up for a whole year, but I'll try my best.
What are your resolutions for 2012?

Wedges!

Hey, So today I hit the sales... and got another pair of black wedges (yeah, I think I'm obsessed) from H&M that I absolutely love (although they weren't even on sale!). For some reason I really don't like wearing heels, and usually opt for wedges instead because I find them much comfier and easier to walk/dance in...I also love the way wedges look!
Wedges- H&M
I didn't buy them with any specific occasion in mind (I usually buy shoes on impulse to be honest), but I will probably wear them for New Years Eve - Yay! xo

27.12.11

I know Christmas is a time for eating lots... but I think I win the prize for eating the most! After a whole day of eating crap I managed to top it all off by eating a Lindt chocolate reindeer in 3 minutes, which must be some sort of record.
Anyway, this isn't a blog about my ever-present food worries, it's supposed to be about fashion! (Although I have strayed from that topic in most of my posts, so maybe The Fashion Unicorn is a misleading title?)
~
For Christmas I got a looovely Soap & Glory gift set which is absolutely huge!
Soap & Glory bag

It has just about everything you could want from Soap & Glory in it, so needless to say, that's me stocked up on toiletries for the year. The suitcase-esque bag it all came in is also really pretty, so I will have to find some other use for it as it's too nice to hide away in a cupboard all the time!     I also got the Diesel perfume Loverdose which I had been coveting since its release earlier this year, and a Benefit Make up set which I am loving so far!

Benefit Make up set
Soap & Glory goodies!

On Christmas day my parents and I visited my sister, brother-in-law and my niece in the morning which was great (my niece, Lottie, is just under a year old and possibly the sweetest baby ever...although maybe I'm just biased because I'm her auntie!)
Anyhoo, I wore this outfit:

Dress: House of Fraser; Belt: Joy

It's pretty simple and all quite old pieces, but I'd never worn them all together... and that's what I love about clothes. Even after owning something for years you can still find new ways to wear them :)
Hope everybody's enjoying their time off! xo

Merry Christmas!

...I have to admit, I really don't feel Christmassy this year at all. I'm not sure if it's the lack of snow or just my age, but there isn't this buzz around that there always used to be at this time!
I won't be dressing like this...
I am quite looking forward to New Year though, because - although it sounds really cliched - I want to start afresh. I want to turn over a new leaf, and greet every day with hope and optimism for what's to come; because judging by 2011, a lot can happen in one short year.
Here's hoping 2012 will bring forward new opportunities for everybody!
Be Optimistic!
Lots of love, Iona xo

26.11.11

Hey, I wore this outfit today to the cinema to see Breaking Dawn, I was pretty sceptical beforehand but I did actually quite enjoy it! Anyway, I felt maybe a bit too dressed up for cinema-going, but it's kind of turned into my moto that I would rather be overdressed for everything than underdressed for anything!
I am absolutely in love with this Lady GaGa t-shirt [sorry it's not that visible here], and I thought that the black and white picture matched the striped skirt :)
I hope everybody's having a lovely weekend so far <3

Spots And Stripes

Hey, I'm sorry I never post anymore!
Anyway I just thought I'd put up a quick picture of a tiny part of my outfit yesterday: my monochrome striped skirt and dotty nails! I didn't deliberately put them together but then I realised that the fact the patterns completely clashed looked quite good in a strange way.... (I know, I have really creepy hands)

Bye xo

My Marilyn Magazine Cover

Hiya,
so this post probably sounds really nerdy, but hey, I am a total nerd at heart.
I just thought I'd post a picture of a magazine cover that I made up for my Media Studies homework (of a completely made up and not very professional looking magazine...). Obviously I had to put Marilyn Monroe on the cover, and mention Alexander Mcqueen ... I'm so predictable! Sorry it's such a crap quality picture of it by the way:) x

My Summer Holiday

Heeey!
Sorry for completely abandoning my blog recently... anyway, since last time I was on here I went on holiday (nowhere exciting - it was just here in Scotland) with my family and my friend Hannah, and it was amazing! And although a cow did break into a garden, a bat ended up in our kitchen, two of the biggest spiders i've ever seen were in our bedroom and we got woken up every morning by roosters; it was still the best summer holiday I've been on.

Sadly it was not a very fashionable holiday - but the house we stayed in was designed by some famous architect during the 60's, and although it's been there more than half a century it was still really modern and interesting... I would looove to live there! (We even had our own tennis court which was so good).

The house from our garden on a rare sunny day!

I really liked this picture of Hannah in the garden:)

Enjoying the sun (we had to put the camera on timer in the treehouse though!)

Me looking slightly mental on the sofa...

So all in all I had a pretty good summer, and I hope everybody else did too! Thanks for reading x

Afternoon Tea at Tigerlily

Heeey, sorry for not posting in so long! Today my sister & her six month old daughter (my niece!), and my mum and i went for afternoon tea at Tigerlily - a hotel in George Street... I'd never been before but it was so sophisticated with such a nice atmosphere-  I'll definitely be going back. I also loved the idea of having afternoon tea, it seems so cute and ladylike, haha!
I did have pictures of today, but i've lost the cable thingy for my camera so can't upload anything - aaah! Meanwhile i'll just have to post pictures of the restaurant from google.
It was similar to this, but with amazing cupcakes!
So that's about as interesting as my holidays are so far... only two weeks til i go away though!

p.s. i just realised that without my pictures this has nothing to do with fashion...woops x

13.7.11

Hey, today I went shopping (on my own...it sounds really sad but I actually love it... I'm just generally a bit of a weirdo), and then I went and met some of my family to go to the Camera Obscura which was pretty good!
I've had the dress I wore for about a year and a half, but it's still one of my favourite day dresses, it's so comfy and stylish (well I think so anyway), and it's just really quite summery!
I also love this hairband, it's the kind with wire in it which you bend to shape... I have hundreds of headbands/hairbands, and this is the type I find to be most versatile and easy to wear!
I wore my new brogues too, which I am loving at the moment, as with all new purchases, and I thought they matched quite well with this bag that I had forgotten about - so I was rather pleased :)
Dress- Topshop(£45); Hair band - Miss Selfridge(£7); Bag- NewLook(got it as a present); Brogues- Accessorize(£30)
Hope you're all having a lovely holiday! x

2.7.11

Heeey - IT'S THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS. YAS.
And for the first time in ages today it was actually warm enough for shorts! So i'm just generally really happy right now.
Today me and my best friend Hannah walked into town and looked around the Grassmarket & the Royal Mile which was lovely, of course. There's this amazing shop near the museum that we found a while back which sells the cutest jewellery ever - and today I bought a necklace with huge glasses on it![see picture] I also bought more friendship bracelet things because, as you can probably see, I have a bit of an obsession.

Topshop Sunnies; H&M T-shirt; Topshop Shorts; New Look belt; Converse

My gorgeous best friend Hannah

I was in love with this scooter we saw...I want one!

Thank you all for reading - I hope you're enjoying the sun as much as I am. x

Modern Art Gallery

Last week I spent time at The Modern Art Gallery & The Dean Gallery in Edinburgh, [a bit sad, i know]. I was a bit bummed that it was rainy...when will summer start, and when will i be able to wear all my favourite shorts!?
Anyway, I absolutely loved the huge neon lettering that I saw and photographed outside them both[it was kind of hard to miss them...] :

I want some in my garden! I love snappy slogans like that... I have a t-shirt that says 'Moss is the Boss' on it which I think is pretty cool - but it's waaay too small for me - haha!

Sorry for the short post, i'll post more about fashion over the weekend - i promise! x

Marilyn Monroe...

I think most of us have our own personal idols that we adore, and want to - in one way or another - be like. Who are your idols or fashion icons?
It has to be said, there are many people that I myself regard as an idol, including Lady GaGa(of course) and many others, but at the moment I am most fascinated by Marilyn Monroe(Partly because I recently read a book about her).

Of course, she was the stunningly beautiful, original blonde bombshell, who became one of the most famous women in the world, but what I admire the most about her was the fact that she came from such humble, underprivileged beginnings. I believe she suffered quite a lot of hardship throughout her childhood, moving from foster home to foster home...and even still, she single-handedly made a name for herself, and became hugely successful - I really admire her for this, and I guess part of me is rather envious of it!

Something else that gave me a lot of respect for Marilyn is how incredibly brave she was to study at the Actors Studio in NY, in an attempt to break free from her dumb-blonde type-casting, as she wanted to be taken seriously as an actress. I think that must have taken so much courage, and shows that she was actually an intelligent lady.
I too would love to have the guts to do something like that in my lifetime!

Thankyou for reading my huge rant, I'd better stop now before I write a novel... sorry it's so boring- but thankyou for reading<3

Who needs manicures?...

...when you can do nail art yourself?
Ok, well I lied... I would LOVE my nails done by Wah Nails (click here) - their designs are so crazy and unique! *sigh*, maybe one day?

But for now I shall have to settle for painting my own nails. For me, having my nails done is the same as wearing make up - I feel so naked without it! I also feel that it's a way of being creative, colourful and different with your look; without being too out there and still being subtle with it. (Although some of my experiments have been a bit disasterous....yellow nails were not a good look for me!)
How do you like your nails? Here's some of mine from over the past month[sadly none of them are really that interesting though]:

New Jeans!

There's nothing like slipping on (or in my case struggling into :\) a new pair of skinny jeans... especially when they're coral coloured, high-waisted, and you didn't have to pay full price for them- woo!
I don't even know if they are on trend...but i'll be wearing them everywhere anyway :)
Here's my outfit today:

[Jeans- Topshop; Shoes & Top- H&M]
I bought the shoes for dressing up as Lady GaGa at my friends birthday, but i am so in love with them! (not sure if i'll wear them today though, they're not all that comfy.)
Rightyho i'm off to the cinema now. thankyou for reading! x

Saturday in Stockbridge - 21/5/11

This is my first post, so here's hoping it's not too boring...

Heeey, I spent yesterday with my parents(I'm grounded at the moment so I either went with them or sat in the house!) in Stockbridge, a really nice part of Edinburgh. We just looked around the little independent shops and I bought some pointless things, but by far the best part of the day was finding the Patisserie Madeleine, where they sold the most amazing coloured macaroons and cakes... I'm seriously thinking about going back tomorrow, haha.

The appealingly bright yet natural macaroons reminded me of some of the colourful clothing we saw on the runway for S/S 11, and although we're already onto Fall I'm going to take a look back anyway at my pick of the Summer shows pieces that remind me of these tasty treats [pictures courtesy of style.com].....

Here's what I wore (you probably really don't care, but ah well) ...i really didn't need the sunglasses though:|
